Pancreatic Cancer and Obesity in Adults

University of Texas conducted a study recently to demonstrate the relationship between the risk of pancreatic cancer and the body mass index during a patients life.

The study found that obese youths aged between 14-19 yrs had 60% greater chances of getting pancreatic cancer.

The trend kept on decreasing in patients as their average age increased. The trend that has come out of the study is:

Age group 20-40 years - 50% more chance
Age group 40-50 years - almost equal
Age group 50+ years - insignificant relationship


Pancreatic Cancer is the 4th most common cause for deaths by cancer, thus the first of its kind study was conducted by MD Anderson department of the UoT. The research study spanned a 4 year period starting in 2004. The patients statistical data was collected and studied over the years by the team.Get healthy - loose weight

The importance of the study comes at a time when obesity has been increasing as ever in the country; and the measures are being started to curb the syndrome. The study is said to have relevance & implications for general public health.

The study recommends weight-control at younger stages of children as the prime preventive remedy for curbing obesity as well as Pancreatic Cancer.
